World Health Day 2025

Celebrating World Health Day: Supporting Maternal and Newborn Health

As we join the World Health Organization in celebrating World Health Day, we turn our focus to a crucial aspect of global health: maternal and newborn wellbeing.

Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures

This year’s theme, Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures, marks the launch of a year-long campaign starting on 7th April from the World Health Organization. The initiative aims to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths while prioritising the long-term health and wellbeing of women.

With global maternal deaths reaching nearly 300,000 per year, UK maternal mortality rates hitting levels not seen in two decades, and millions of stillbirths and neonatal deaths occurring worldwide – including approximately 4,000 in the UK in 2022 – there is an urgent need for action. At SAS, we recognise the importance of supporting women and their families during this critical time.

Supporting Healthier Pregnancies and Parenthood

Starting or expanding a family is often a time of reflection on overall health and lifestyle changes. To support this journey, we offer a range of services designed to improve wellbeing and prepare individuals for pregnancy and parenthood.

Our Key Services:

  • Preparing Parents Programme – In collaboration with CM Talent, we have revamped our Preparing Parents programme and now offer an informative and practical E-Guide to help you navigate parental leave. This updated initiative provides valuable guidance on your career, pregnancy, and family life.
  • 24/7 GP Helpline – Immediate access to a GP at any time, ensuring round-the-clock medical advice.
  • Nurse Support Line – Our team of nine in-house nurses, available from 8am to 8pm (Monday to Friday), brings expertise in health visiting, midwifery, menopause, minor injuries, urgent care, and more.
  • Physiotherapy Support – Pregnancy can cause or exacerbate physical conditions. We provide referrals for physiotherapy both during and after pregnancy.
  • SAS GYM – Improve fitness levels with pre-recorded, live group, and individual online training sessions tailored for pre- and post-pregnancy, along with nutrition advice and many other resources.
  • Mindfulness & Relaxation – Access pre-recorded podcasts, live webinars, and online courses to manage stress and enhance relaxation.
  • Happier Healthier You – An online community designed to help members improve overall health and wellbeing. Featuring a selection of courses and programmes not only for improving every day life, but also for the preparation of pregnancy and parenthood.
  • Counselling Services – Becoming a parent is a transformative experience that can bring joy, but also challenges. Our counselling support is available for those navigating emotional difficulties, including miscarriage or stillbirth.
