Pupil Yoga

SAS Pupil Yoga has been in partnership with Yoga in Schools & the Teen Yoga Foundation since 2019 and together we are making a huge difference to the health and wellbeing of pupils and staff.

Read about Yoga in Schools here, where you can watch an introductory video from Charlotta Martinus, Director of Yoga in Schools and Teen Yoga.

Charlotta Martinus is an award-winning visionary and the world leader in the field of yoga for young people. She was awarded the Master of Yoga title, the only woman in Europe, in 2019 by the International Yoga Alliance, after her best-selling book Teen Yoga for Yoga Therapists was published in 2018. Charlotta has taught over 3000 Yoga instructors some of whom are PCGE-qualified school teachers who are now children and teen Yoga Therapists, specialising in supporting the mental health of young people worldwide. A Yoga In School’s instructor is certified to teach about the changing and growing anatomy of young people, physiology, socio-psychology and neuroscience. This is an educational-based programme that SAS will arrange for your school to support children from nursery-age through to 6th form students.

It’s completely up to the school when the yoga sessions take place, but Yoga In School’s research has proven that if a somatic curriculum is integrated into the school week on a regular basis, it will enhance and complement the UK’s national PE or PSHE curriculum.

Below is a sample Yoga4Schools curriculum developed by the Teen Yoga Foundation in collaboration with the University of Westminster, complementing the UK’s national PSHE curriculum.

Alternatively, a full or half “healthy school” day programme is also available. Individual yoga lessons can be tailored to address specific concerns and offers pupils an introduction into Yoga In Schools. If you are planning activities during

Children’s Mental Health week for example, or a wellbeing day for older students to find peacefulness around the exam season, adopting yoga into your school is an excellent choice.

Pupil Yoga is the antidote to stress and the Teen Yoga Foundation have evidence to prove it can transform young lives, moving them from a place of chaos and living in fear, to a quietened calm and inner confidence.

Here are some more benefits that a regular yoga practise in education can provide, support the health and wellbeing of both pupils and staff:

  • Boosts concentration levels to find focus in any given ‘moment’. Specific yoga postures redress the balance when our body-mind is ‘out of whack’ offering simple tools to help the teacher address behavioural concerns, and/or reduce distractions in their classroom for example.
  • Reduce stress & anxiety. Yoga In Schools has developed a set of Mood Cards that offer specific yoga postures to ‘meet the pupil(‘s) mood’ whilst following the all-important breath-work and supportive meditative tools that help pupils ‘let go’ of their worries.
  • Build physically strong and healthy bodies fuelled by feel-good hormones for improved (sports) performance, resilience
and stamina. Yoga is now a go-to activity for many professional sporting athletes.
  • Improve self-awareness and find joy from the inside-out as opposed to external gratification. Yoga promotes positive body beliefs and teaches pupils about the importance of connecting to their emotional intelligence.
  • Spread connection from self to others, and the world around them through growing acceptance and a wider sense of community.

Guided video sessions aimed at primary and secondary aged children are free to SAS customers. On-site visits or video sessions with a yoga instructor are available at a discounted rate. Available Nationwide.
