All Schools Advisory Service policies are underwritten by Berkshire Hathaway (BHIIL) who have an ‘AA+’ credit rating from the rating agency Standard and Poor’s. AA+ is the highest rating an underwriter can receive, ensuring all our customers have the highest financial security available.
Having a reputable underwriter with a high credit rating ensures that a Staff Absence Insurance provider meets its financial obligations and reimburses valid claims. It is however, not uncommon in the Staff Absence Insurance market for providers to have unrated underwriters, underwriters with a questionable level of financial security, or in the case of an unregulated mutual, no underwriter at all, which ultimately provides schools with no financial protection whatsoever.
Therefore, when considering purchasing cover for your schools absences, it is always worth asking:
Do you have an insurer that underwrites your policy?
If yes, who is that insurer, and what credit rating do they have?
Can you provide documentation to demonstrate their ability to pay claims?
If you would like to know any further information about our underwriters, please contact us on 01773 814400. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.
